In this assignment, we were asked to form groups of 5 / 6 members and write a research paper of our chosen theme, in which we picked the solar chimney. we then analyzed and extracted the important ideas to fully understand the mechanism of the solar chimney in local climatic conditions that reduce the energy load of mechanical ventilation systems.
outcome.
1) What are your thoughts & ideas on sustainability? What you will include in your design and why?
I believed sustainability should be a core part of architecture. It should not be separated from our designs, or an after thought, but rather a constant priority in our designs, such as appropriate climatic and contextual responses and the incorporation of passive ventilation/shading devices.
2) In reference to the module outline and learning outcome - have you met the learning outcome? Do you think you need to further research? How will this knowledge enable you to design?
I think I have achieved the learning outcomes in the module, but I do believe that further research is always necessary as learning is a continuous process.
But, I feel like this module has better equipped to respond to the climate and site better, as well as equipped me with knowledge on passive ventilation devices.
3) What are your ideas on passive designs? Do you think we need to reduce energy usage?
My thoughts on passive design are that it is a vital part of architecture, and it is an architects duty to the client, the users and the environment to reduce energy consumption as much as possible.
